September 11th, 2008. Eight women in search of support for Obama…….Mary Jo, an artist, paints stones found along the shore with the words “Obama,” “Hope” “Fairness” “ Justice” “Equal Rights.” A new way of showing support for our next President is born.
With photos of the stones in hand, we paint these same words on stones with markers and agree to place ten a day wherever we can in places that will be noticed. To ask ten other people throughout the country - men, women, children - to join our efforts. And ten more and ten more each day until the support for Obama overwhelms and is embraced by all fifty states.
The beauty of this idea: An anonymous, non-confrontational, progressive movement in support of Barack (BaROCK) Obama. A surprisingly simple message, viewed, passed by or placed someplace else. An artistic response. Stones are part of the earth that Barack Obama wants to impact, improve, and save from global warming. The United States of America that Barack Obama wants to lead into a new vision of democracy.
Join us! Paint stones! Distribute them everywhere!
Change our country and the world!

I just saw this on Huffington Post as one of their Huffpost's pick on Paul Reiser's blog! What a great
idea! I will definitely join this effort!
Terrific! Leave no stone unturned. Get out the vote. Make straight the path through Ohio to the White House. J
I am already starting my stones for Obama. I will reach out to the college campus in my city!
I AM IN!! :)
And already have stones with positive inscriptions so know it works! This is a very cool idea and I will pass it on!
DAYTON, OHIO has the only open PEACE MUSEUM in the country and our PEACE RALLY is Sunday afternoon, September 21st at Court House Square if anyone reading this would like to attend.
Peace and Love!

What a wonderful idea!!!! I've already sent this to all my email buddies!!!!
Thanks!!!!
I love this idea. I just have to figure out where I can get stones. I'll start looking today.
Brilliant! I've left stones on picnic tables in parks, in restaurants, on grocery store shelves, on a college campus, and given them as paperweights for desks. I went to a garden store and bought rocks and gathered some from my yard. Painted "Obama" on one side and words like "trust," "national security," "change," and "yes we can" on the other side. Great project for the kids who want to be part of this election too. Thanks for the idea! Lois
A friend who loves the idea of the "Stepping Stones" just put the picture of the stones on her computer screen. Cheers to each person for all you're doing to elect Obama our next President! Carol
I love this idea -- I have started leaving rocks at coffee shops, parks, bus stops. Let's spread this idea across the country!
I've started writing on rocks and leaving them in public places. I've been including the blog address on the rocks so that people can check here and keep in touch! It makes me feel purposeful!
What a wonderful, nonconfrontational idea! And I have access to LOTS of stones. And Sharpies. ;)

I'm going to paint stones tonight as I watch the Vice Presidential debate. I will fight the temptation to throw them at the television!
My husband and I just completed a 3500 mile trip that covered 13 states-two main destinations were Panama City Beach, FL & Richmond, VA. My daughter & I created Obama Rocks using two-five # bags which we left along the way. In Richmond, we met the Obama Regional Rep. who loved the rocks. GO OBAMA-

I met Michele in DC at the inauguration---who shared your vision/story. Ironically---it intersected with my own. For years, I've calligraphed inspirational words on stones, and given them to people as random acts of kindness. Yo Yo Ma on September 11th. Hundreds more. In June of 2007, I created one for Barack Obama with 'audacity' on one side and 'hope' on the other and passed to him via his staffer in Connecticut. Then, I started campaigning, sharing 'hope' stones with Obama staffers vols/supporters across the country (just like your vision!) Beautiful, healing, rock-solid symbols of hope! Yes we did! Hope-filled in Colorado!
