BE TRUE BLUE

Two years ago, a small group of women painted stones with messages in support of Obama. We invited others to join us and before long, hundreds, if not thousands, of these stones were distributed throughout Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Virginia, Missouri, California, Ohio, Florida, North Carolina and Wisconsin. Our post was selected as a Huffington Favorite. Success – Obama Won!

Two years later, even more is at stake. So much of what he promised has been trampled by Republican obstinacy. And yet President Obama has taken most of the blame by an uninformed, angry public. In spite of all the 'NO's from the Republicans, Obama has averted a depression, passed the largest economic stimulus bill in American history, set a fixed timetable for withdrawing US forces from Iraq, returned science to its rightful place, lifted Bush restrictions on stem cell research, expanded children’s health insurance, supported women’s rights to equal pay, increased financial aid to war veterans, appointed first Latina to US Supreme Court, lifted travel restrictions for Cuban Americans, signed a hate crime bill, abolished torture aka ‘enhanced interrogation techniques’, passed Bank Reforms and much more.

Obama needs more time and more support to expand education, reform Wall Street, pass comprehensive immigration reform, establish clean energy reform and a whole host of other worthwhile legislation that supports all of us. Republicans stand a chance of taking over the Congress where they intend to roll back the clock, shoving everything the United States stands for into the dust. We cannot let that happen.

Democrats must get to the polls and vote in this election for the best man or woman running, the one who stands up for the middle class, has the intelligence to govern, to compromise and has the ability to create legislation that improves the quality of life for all.

HEALTH CARE FOR THE MIDDLE YEARS

Last year at this time, eight women painted stones with messages in support of Obama which we distributed throughout Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. Our post was selected as a Huffington Favorite. Success – Obama Won!

Again, we are together, this time advocating a Health Care Plan as a human right whose time has come. Do we really need to paint stones to convince the populace? Children eighteen years and younger already have Children Care. Adults 65 and over have Medicare. All that’s needed is Middle Care for those 19 to 64 years of age and coverage is complete.

Research shows that the last 6 weeks of life require the greatest expense which is why Medicare has funding issues. When the healthiest members participate by paying into the system, costs are more equitably distributed. Right now, we’re covering those that need the most care at both ends of the spectrum, excluding the middle, robust, healthy citizens.

The idea that illegal immigrants (why aliens? It sounds like they are from Mars) are not covered is ridiculous. Right now anyone with or without health care can walk into an emergency room and receive treatment, free for them and astronomically expensive for the taxpayer.

As Barbara Boxer, the Senator from California stated those in Congress against federal health care should give up their health care because it is a federal program.

To our Senators and Representatives – Pass the bill now. Stop being hijacked by half the members of Congress who represent a mere fraction of the population. The vast majority of Americans consider health care a right and support access to health care for all a necessity. DO YOUR JOB!!!!! Or consider seeking other employment.

Join us! Paint stones! Distribute them everywhere!

September 11th, 2008. Eight women in search of support for Obama…….Mary Jo, an artist, paints stones found along the shore with the words “Obama,” “Hope” “Fairness” “ Justice” “Equal Rights.” A new way of showing support for our next President is born.

With photos of the stones in hand, we paint these same words on stones with markers and agree to place ten a day wherever we can in places that will be noticed. To ask ten other people throughout the country - men, women, children - to join our efforts. And ten more and ten more each day until the support for Obama overwhelms and is embraced by all fifty states.

The beauty of this idea: An anonymous, non-confrontational, progressive movement in support of Barack (BaROCK) Obama. A surprisingly simple message, viewed, passed by or placed someplace else. An artistic response. Stones are part of the earth that Barack Obama wants to impact, improve, and save from global warming. The United States of America that Barack Obama wants to lead into a new vision of democracy.

Join us! Paint stones! Distribute them everywhere!
Change our country and the world!
